How silky she was when he rubbed against her.
He liked the way her skin felt
soft and moist as rose petals from a garden
or his paws after a summer shower.
Her breath was sweet like fresh milk and honey.
In the winter she sheltered him from the snowy banks
sleeping beside her among the downy covers.
When he stretched he drew back his claws.
The night winds carried the howls of a queen,
it was then that he went in search of his kind
returning to wind about her feet
inviting her to lift him up where
she sat alone by the fireplace.
Together they stayed while she read her books
dreaming that someday a new love would come to her door.
