When I was unable to listen to  Prince on youtube due to copyright infringement issues, a friend from Scotland was kind enough to send me his recordings a few months ago. Thank you so much!  I had no idea how significant that gesture would be. Prince has left a legacy of amazing music, he will be missed.

  1. It was strange though
as I never liked his voice
    but tears kept creeping
    up from the abyss
    his music so very funky
    a party on the stage
I may not been a fan of his
    but his music I take
    even to my grave.

May his soul and music forever be remembered.

  2. Nice tribute to Prince. He was a lot like David Bowie in some respects and Steve Winwood in others. Like Bowie, he would blend different musical influences together to create a new sound. Like Winwood, he could play so many instruments and started so young. He influenced many artists to this day, even Michael Jackson who felt the need to be “Bad” like Prince. If you can find it, watch him in one of greatest Super Bowl halftime performances ever, with the rain pouring down. When he closed with Purple Rain, it stopped raining in an ironic end. Keith

    • Thank you for the interesting comment. I watched the Super Bowl performance during the rain storm in Miami., my home town. When told that it was raining prior to his half time show I heard he asked if they could make it rain harder. It was spectacular to watch Purple Rain in a heavy rainstorm. 🙂

  3. I hope that you enjoyed your ride in that little red corvette. I can see the wind blowing through your lovely red hair and your beautiful bare feet on the dashboard. I hope that do not get delirious. The forecast could be calling for some purple rain. Anyway, 1999 has long since past so you will have to party like it’s later than that. Yes, you’ve got that look.

  4. Hi Holly, sorry I’ve been very quiet recently. I only just noticed your e mail about Prince today. It’s ironic that you were thanking me for putting all those tunes in one place for you to get to because while you were writing that email I was in the process of trawling the net so that we may add to our purple treasure chest. In fact I’ve spent virtually the whole weekend with no sleep finding bits and pieces of live performances by Prince. Some are actual videos — I have got the full 12 and half minute Superbowl Half Time performance that has already been mentioned on here — Although when I say that “I have got the full 12 and half minute Superbowl Half Time performance” I should correct myself to say that “We have got”… As in You and I or Thee and Me.
You have popped into my thoughts a lot this weekend because apart from knowing that all these gems I was finding would eventually find their way to you (I actually purposefully set out to get the original video for “When Doves Cry”, because I know that it is a favourite of yours)… but also you are probably the only other person I know that likes Prince as much as I do… although from the weekends evidence it seems that the whole world his/her lover their twin sons/daughters and their goldfish were all massive fans of his music, talent and personality. I don’t know where they have all come from, these bandwagon jumpers but I don’t mind them as long they don’t disagree with me and my opinions regarding the whole situation. My main issue is that no comparisons should be made in anyway shape or form with esteemed names such as David Bowie and Michael Jackson. Yes I will say that Michael Jackson and David Bowie are excellent and culturally important and relevant in their own way but Prince… Man/Woman he’s out there… his talents are in a different world that is without comparison. Apart from being a superbly talented musician and songwriter and the rest rest rest…. The thing that has struck me the most about him when I was looking at all these clips and reading stories of almost daily impromptu concerts and after hours parties… above all else the man wanted to entertain people and put a smile on there face. And the first introduction to the new folder that I am setting up for all these extra purple vignettes illustrates everything I have just said perfectly… Its a version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps done with Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and some others that I struggled to notice. The song trundles along amiably enough in a Sunday dress acceptable kind of fashion until about after two and a half minutes Prince decides to grab it by the throat and drag to a higher a plane. People have said that what he does blows away all the other performers in the song… It does completely… But you never get the sense that Prince is showing off… it’s always about people and entertaining them and getting the chance to just make them smile.

This is the first of many examples of complete brilliance by the little man who towered above everyone else….
Enjoy and take care Holly… My Guitar Gently Weeps – Prince.mp4

    • Hi Mark, I wanted you to know how much I appreciate the gift of Prince’s music. I am very saddened by his death and blown away by the fact that you and I were discussing his music not that long ago and you sent me his links, the timing is startling. I agree that Prince was not to be compared to the very talented Bowie and MJ, they could not bring the music alive as he did. He had a true gift with lyrics, “Dream if you can a courtyard, an ocean of violets in bloom” …Knocks me out. I hope everything is good with you Mark. Thank you again for the gift, I will never stop thanking you and welcome any thing you can forward me if you get to it. Take very good care of yourself. Holly
