  2. Aren’t Cardinals supposed to be in church on a Sunday? Or is that just the Catholic kind?

    Beautiful pictures Holly.

Last Saturday I heard a tapping at my window and after realising it wasn’t going to stop I went and investigated and found a Chaffinch that appeared to be trying to get into my kitchen. I ushered it on its way and within 10 minutes it was back again. It was half amusing at first, crazy old Chaffinch trying to get into the kitchen. Next day same thing, all bloody day and the day after and… After a week of my friends telling me that it was anything ranging from “A bad omen and imminent death!!” to “Well, you never know, it might be Prince!!”, I decided to look it up on Google. After typing in ‘chaffinch fl’ google kindly predicted the rest and I was shown hundreds of pages about Chaffinches flying into windows. It seems that our little feathered friend is having a fight with his reflection, although he isn’t —and seemingly will never be— aware of this fact. To him it’s another bloody Chaffinch wanting a fight. The solution apparently is to put a picture of a cats face in the window, but because I don’t have those kind of things handy I’ve had to settle for a picture of Kate Bush the singer instead. Fingers crossed. I’ll let you know if it fails or not. My next course of action is psychotherapy —for the chaffinch of course, not me— but you never know.

Have a wonderful Sunday – Cardinals and Blue Jays and all.

    • Laughing very hard! This could only happen to you Mark. Prince no doubt. Remember the time you got into that brawl with your reflection…good times!
I had a finch set up housekeeping on my patio ledge two winters ago, he stayed all winter, apparently a real party animal, he would disappear for a day or two but then return at 7pm setting out again at 7 am like clockwork. Probably living two lives. Thanks for the latest excitement at Marks, have a fabulous day, take Kate out of your window, who knows what she might attract.
